Nuszbaum Ágnes

Born in Budapest in 1927

Member of “Hanoar Hatzioni”

Ágnes joined the movement in 1942. In 1943 she assisted Polish refugees who arrived in Budapest. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, she went into hiding with forged  documents. On June 26th she went on a tiyul to the Romanian border with a group of comrades. She succeeded in crossing the border but was caught by Romanian policemen. Shulamit was sentenced to five years in prison but stayed only two months.
In November 1944 she arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine) via Bulgaria. For two years Ágnes was in the framework of Aliyat Hanoar. She took part in the War of Independence and was the girls’ commander in the “Kuzari” unit. Ágnes engaged in education and was an inspector for the Ministry of Education. She lives in Jerusalem.
